Here in Texas, being board-certified in a certain area of law lets potential clients know that an attorney has considerable, relevant experience in that legal area and has shown themselves to be especially competent in it. Statewide, there are about 70,000 licensed attorneys. Just 10 percent (7,000) are board-certified in any practice area. The number certified in bankruptcy law is even lower.
